A Quote That Changed My Day!

I have always been kind of a quote nerd. I enjoy reading quotes of all kinds and then pondering what they mean. I recently read a quote that kind of blew me away. In fact, it has sent me on a kind of treasure hunt, if you will. Please see the quote below.

After I read the quote above, I thought that this is so true in my life. The more I am able to spot good things, the more good I have in my life.

Sometimes I must be waiting for big, good things to whack me on the side of the head because they sure seem hard to find. Especially nowadays when turning on or viewing the news. I can easily get into a mild funk if I do that. Then, sadly, it seems I cannot spot too many good things.

It’s nice if good and big things show up in our lives. They are hard to miss. We all love those good and big things – things like a promotion, a fun vacation, a good visit at the doctor, new additions to your family and extended family, making wonderful new friends, and doing something fun on your bucket list. Those are all wonderful big things we don’t really have to look too hard for. But what if there is even more good to be found?

This morning I started an exercise. I tried to think of all the good little things that have happened to me in the last twenty-four hours. Once I started the exercise, I was amazed at how many good things I could come up with. Here are a few “small” good things I thought of:

  • A beautiful sunny day, temps around 70 degrees with a recent, much-needed rain. Today is another day just like it. SI have started to hear the birds when being outside. Spring is coming, little by little!
  • I drove to a local state park to photograph the sunset and was treated to a small kite show. I love kites and this family was flying four kites in the park. The family didn’t mind me photographing their kites. I thanked them when I left and they thanked me as well. A shared moment of joy and humanity. I love it!
  • I read several paragraphs of GOOD NEWS every Sunday evening thanks to someone I subscribe to in my email. I subscribe to several good news services and I just love them. They start my day or week off right!
  • I was able to photograph a beautiful sunset, in addition to kites, at the local state park. A combination of fun clouds and sunshine appeared just in the right place on the horizon over the lake.
  • I spoke to three customer service folks on the phone this morning and all three were extremely helpful. I got the exact information I needed quickly and pleasantly. Pretty good for first thing Monday morning!
  • I was driving through my neighborhood and spotted someone walking their dog but also visiting with the mail person while doing so. The dogs looked excited to see the mail person too. Maybe they do this every day, who knows? This was such a quintessentially fun neighborhood spotting it made me smile. Many shared little bits of humanity in my neighborhood make me smile.
  • And last, but not least, I discovered the new, local family coffee shop started serving my favorite breakfast just this morning. While I can’t have this every morning, it will be nice to have this as an early morning treat every once in a while.

So as you can see, after thinking for a few minutes I came up with quite a list of small good things. My Monday morning mood has considerably brightened and I will be on the lookout for more small good things this afternoon and the rest of this week!

I’m so glad I came across this quote and applied it to my thoughts. This week I challenge you to do the same! Here is it one more time.

About Me

I am a human being who appreciates kindness. I enjoy being the recipient of acts of kindness (who doesn’t? 😊). I enjoy planning for acts of kindness and trying spur-of-the-moment acts of kindness. I also enjoy reading about others doing acts of kindness. It gives me both hope and ideas for future acts of kindness I could do.
